Strings
Private violin and viola lessons for ages 6 to adult, from first bow strokes to orchestra auditions, near 71st and Yale.
The violin rewards a good start more than almost any instrument. How a student holds the violin and bow in the first months shapes their tone, their intonation, and how far they can go, which is why private lessons matter so much on strings. Violin and viola lessons at our Tulsa studio near 71st and Yale build those habits carefully from the first lesson, so progress comes faster and playing stays comfortable.
Every private lesson is at least 45 minutes and pairs technique with reading, ear training, and real music. Many of our string students also play in school orchestras, and lessons help them keep up with their parts, prepare chair placements and all-state auditions, and grow into confident soloists in recitals, festivals, and competitions.

FAQ:
Q: What age is best to start violin lessons?
A: Most children are ready for private violin lessons around age 6, when they can follow directions for a full lesson and practice a few minutes each day. Violins come in small fractional sizes, so even young students can play an instrument that fits them. Younger children can start with our Kindermusik and pre-instrument classes.
Q: Do you also teach viola?
A: Yes. Viola lessons cover the same technique and musicianship as violin, along with reading alto clef and developing the deeper, warmer tone the viola is known for. Some students start on viola, and others switch from violin to fill a spot in their school orchestra.
Q: What size violin does my child need, and should we rent or buy?
A: Violin size depends on arm length, and your teacher will help confirm the right fit at the first lesson. Many families rent while a child is still growing, since they will move through several sizes, and buy a full size instrument once growth slows.
Q: Can private lessons help with school orchestra?
A Yes. Private lessons give students one on one attention that a full orchestra rehearsal cannot. Teachers help students learn difficult passages, prepare for chair placements and all-state auditions, and build the technique to play their orchestra music with confidence.
