Nuance Music Studio was founded on a simple but powerful belief: that music education, done with care and intention, can shape a person for life. What began as a family legacy in the Dominican Republic has grown into a thriving studio serving students of all ages in Tulsa, Oklahoma, the Triangle area of North Carolina, and online.
A Legacy Rooted in Three Generations
Our story begins with Estudio Dina, one of the most prestigious music academies in the Caribbean and a member of the Asociación Latinoamericana de Conservatorios y Escuelas de Música (ALCEM). Founded by the Peña-Dina family, Estudio Dina has been shaping musicians in the Dominican Republic for 40 years and remains active today. That same multigenerational philosophy of personalized, community-rooted music education is the foundation on which Nuance was built, first in North Carolina and later expanding to Tulsa, Oklahoma.
Who We Are
Nuance is led by three co-founders, each bringing a unique depth of expertise to the studio:
Dr. Milton Fernández, D.M.A., Founder and Co-Director, is a concert pianist and educator with a Doctor of Musical Arts in Piano Performance from the University of Oregon, with experience working with students from young beginners to professional concert pianists.
Farida Peña, M.D., Co-Director, is an early childhood music specialist with over 25 years of experience, a Master's in Music Education and Music Pedagogy, and a background as a medical doctor, bringing a uniquely scientific lens to how children learn and grow through music.
Sarah Fernández, Co-Director, brings an M.S. in Analytics and expertise in data science, technology, and operations, ensuring that every family's experience at Nuance is seamless, responsive, and welcoming from the very first interaction.
