Piano

Private piano lessons for ages 6 to adult, from first notes to pre-professional, near 71st and Yale.

Piano is often called the best first instrument because it lets students see and hear how music works: melody and harmony, both clefs, every note laid out in front of them. Piano lessons at our Tulsa studio near 71st and Yale are private and at least 45 minutes, built around each student, whether that is a six-year-old finding middle C, a teenager preparing a festival piece, or an adult returning to the keyboard after years away.

Our piano faculty is led by co-director Dr. Milton Fernández, a concert pianist, and includes teachers who hold Doctors of Musical Arts in piano. Students learn to read fluently, play with healthy technique, and understand the music under their hands, from Bach and Chopin to jazz standards and the pop songs they love.

FAQ:

Q: What age is best to start piano lessons?

A: Most children are ready for private piano lessons around age 6, when they can focus for a full lesson and begin reading notes. Younger children can start with our Kindermusik and pre-instrument classes, which build rhythm, listening, and coordination that carry straight into piano.

Q: Do I need a piano at home?

A: Yes, daily practice needs an instrument at home. An acoustic piano is ideal, and a full-size 88-key digital piano with weighted keys works well for beginners. Your teacher is happy to advise on what to look for before you buy.

Q Are piano lessons only classical?

A: Every student builds a classical foundation in technique and reading, and lessons can also include jazz, pop, and contemporary music. Many students mix styles, and teachers choose repertoire around each student's goals and interests.

Q: Can adults take piano lessons?

A: Absolutely. Adult beginners and returning players are some of our most dedicated students. Lessons move at your pace and focus on the music you want to play, with the same theory and reading foundation our younger students receive.
